Arba Minch, Ethiopia – June 14, 2025

In a powerful gesture of commitment to community development and the future of Ethiopian sports, Mr. Eyassu Wossen Berhanu, President of the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) and one of Ethiopia’s most prominent business figures, has donated 3 million Ethiopian Birr (approximately $22,000 USD) towards the construction of the Arba Minch International Stadium.

This generous contribution was made during his recent visit to Arba Minch, where Mr. Eyassu was warmly received by local officials, sports enthusiasts, and community leaders. His donation marks a significant milestone in the ongoing development of the stadium, which is set to become one of the region's most important sports and cultural landmarks.

"Sports is more than competition—it is a catalyst for youth development, national pride, and unity. Investing in infrastructure like the Arba Minch International Stadium means investing in the future of our people,”

said President Eyassu during the handover.

The 3 million Birr support is one of the many philanthropic initiatives championed by Mr. Eyassu, whose leadership extends far beyond the boxing ring. Known for his unwavering dedication to uplifting communities across Ethiopia, he continues to leverage his influence and resources to build bridges between sports, education, and social progress.

The Arba Minch International Stadium project, once completed, will serve not only as a hub for regional and national sporting events but also as a multifunctional venue for youth programs, concerts, and large-scale gatherings—boosting both local morale and economic activity.

Mr. Eyassu’s donation reaffirms his commitment to using sport as a tool for transformation, aligning perfectly with the AFBC’s broader mission to defend and develop African boxing while nurturing young talent from the grassroots level.
