Elizabeth Andiego Breaks Record, Surpasses Philip Waruinge’s Unbeaten Streak

Elizabeth Andiego, East Africa's undisputed queen of female amateur boxing, has made history by setting a new unbeaten record in Kenyan boxing, surpassing legendary boxer Philip Waruinge's decade-long unbeaten streak. The 37-year-old Andiego, known as “Warhorse,” has remained unbeaten in local competitions for 14 years, since her international debut in 2010.

Her remarkable achievement has not only solidified her status as a national hero but also as a prominent ambassador for women's amateur boxing in Kenya and the region. With multiple accolades under her belt, including two gold medals in the 2024 Mandela African Boxing Cup and the 2022 Africa Zone 3 Championships, Andiego's journey is one of resilience and determination.

Despite limited local competition, Andiego's dominance has continued to shine on the international stage, where she has represented Kenya at the Olympics, World Championships, and Commonwealth Games. Her achievements make her a prime candidate for endorsements from major brands like Safaricom and SportPesa, as she continues to inspire upcoming female boxers in Kenya and across Africa.

At 37, Andiego remains determined to fight on, with plans to continue until she reaches 40. She hopes that organizations will recognize her impact on the sport and support her through endorsements, which would provide financial stability in an otherwise challenging career.

Her story is one of overcoming adversity, from a traumatic accident to constant victories in the ring, making her a beacon of hope and strength for future generations of female athletes in Kenya.
