AFBC Urges Tunisian Sports Ministry to Stop Unauthorized Boxing Event
The African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) has formally addressed the Tunisian Ministry of Youth and Sports, calling for immediate action to halt the unauthorized "African Pro Boxing Contest" scheduled for January 24, 2025, in Tunis. The event, organized by a group led by suspended official General Luyoyo, is deemed illegal and violates AFBC and International Boxing Association (IBA) regulations.
In a letter to the Ministry and the Tunisian National Olympic Committee, AFBC President Eyassu Wossen Berhanu highlighted that the event is unsanctioned and misuses AFBC’s name and logo, infringing on its intellectual property rights. The AFBC also emphasized that participation in this event is prohibited and warned of disciplinary actions, including Tunisia's exclusion from future AFBC and IBA competitions, should the event proceed.
The AFBC further reminded the Ministry that all boxing activities in Africa fall under its jurisdiction as the sole governing body for the sport on the continent. Ensuring compliance with AFBC and IBA regulations is critical for maintaining the sport’s credibility and supporting the development of athletes across Africa.
The AFBC urges Tunisian authorities to act swiftly to uphold the integrity of the sport and ensure compliance with established regulations.
