IBA Welcomes Imane Khelif’s Legal Action, Confirms Readiness to Reveal Gender Test Results

The International Boxing Association (IBA) welcomes the recent statement by Algerian boxer Imane Khelif on social media, where she expressed her intention to take legal action against the organization. IBA sees this as a positive step, as it would allow the judicial system to compel the disclosure of two gender tests that led to her ineligibility to compete in IBA-sanctioned women’s boxing events. IBA President Umar Kremlev emphasized that the organization stands by its decision and is prepared to prove its case in court.

“We received great news that the IOC will face the consequences of their decisions, as Imane Khelif is going to proceed with legal actions against the IBA,” Kremlev stated. “We are really glad, as we will be able to prove in court that Khelif, based on eligibility criteria, was not allowed to compete in female boxing events in order to guarantee safety and a fair chance to women competitors. We will insist on the forensic medical examination, which will prove our position, and we will communicate the outcome accordingly. Thomas Bach will be personally accountable to the law for what he did.” IBA remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety of all boxers and maintaining the fairness of competitions. The organization reiterates its adherence to eligibility criteria designed to protect female athletes and uphold the integrity of the sport.
