SANABO to Host Elite Men and Women Open Boxing Trials in East London

The South African National Boxing Organisation (SANABO), in collaboration with SANABO Eastern Cape, the Eastern Cape Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, and Hemingways Mall, is set to host the Elite Men and Women Open Boxing National Team Trials from February 11 to 16, 2025, at Hemingways Mall in East London.

Originally scheduled for the Orient Theatre Hall, the event has been relocated to the undercover parking area of Hemingways Mall for commercial reasons. The decision aligns with SANABO’s recent strategy of holding tournaments in shopping malls to engage a broader audience and foster new partnerships.

These trials will serve as a crucial platform for skilled and experienced boxers vying for a place in South Africa’s ultimate national squad. The round-robin format will allow each boxer to compete against all others in their weight division, with cumulative points determining the final rankings.

Recognized as a hub for top-tier boxing talent, the Eastern Cape has a rich history of producing elite athletes under the mentorship of renowned coaches and influential figures in the sport. The upcoming trials will further cement the region’s reputation as a powerhouse in South African boxing.

The event is proudly supported by Hemingways Mall, Hemingways Casino, Hemingways Tsogo Sun, the Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, and Buffalo City Municipality.

SANABO extends an invitation to media houses, political leaders, business figures, and the wider community to attend and elevate the tournament’s significance. Notably, an official invitation has been extended to the Premier of the Eastern Cape, the Honorable Oscar Lubabalo Mabuyane, who has confirmed his attendance.

With South Africa’s top boxers competing for national team selection, this highly anticipated event promises to be a thrilling showcase of skill, determination, and sporting excellence.
