
AFBC Announces 2025 Event Schedule to Foster African Boxing Development
The African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) has officially unveiled its 2025 Event Schedule, marking another milestone in promoting and developing boxing across Africa. This year’s calendar includes a variety of competitions, training programs, and administrative initiatives designed to enhance the skills of athletes, referees, and officials while strengthening the sport's foundation throughout the continent.
Key Competitions
The AFBC will host several prestigious boxing tournaments in 2025, including:
- Zonal Championships (Zone 1, 2, 3, and 4): February – July 2025, location TBD.
- African Youth Men and Women Boxing Championship: April 10–25, 2025, Guinea, Conakry.
- Edith Lucie and Omar Bongo Ondimba Challenge Tournament: May 2025, Gabon, Libreville.
- African Elite Men and Women Boxing Championship: August 2025, location TBD.
- Mandela African Boxing Cup: September 2025, Durban, South Africa.
Training and Development Programs
AFBC places significant emphasis on capacity-building through specialized training for referees, judges, coaches, and administrators.
R/J and Coaching Courses:
Scheduled in Zones 1 to 4, with notable sessions in Ghana (January 20–29 and February 3–9) and Mozambique (February 26–March 5).
Sport Administration Training for NF Presidents and Secretary Generals: June 2025.
ITOs and Ringside Doctors Training: August 2025.
Diversity and Collaboration
The AFBC will also host Diversity Meetings in April and August 2025 to encourage dialogue and collaboration among member nations.
Zonal Visits by AFBC Management
To strengthen ties and provide tailored support, AFBC management will conduct zonal visits throughout the year, starting with Zone 4 in February.
AFBC Interim Secretary General Yohannes Birhane emphasized the importance of these initiatives, stating:
"This comprehensive schedule reflects our commitment to enhancing boxing in Africa. Through competitions, training, and collaboration, we aim to unlock the potential of our athletes and administrators while uniting the boxing community across the continent."
