Vibrant Opening for African Youth Boxing Championship in Conakry

Conakry, Guinea – The African Youth Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championship officially opened in Conakry with a colorful and energetic ceremony that reflected the spirit of African unity and sportsmanship.

Held in the heart of Guinea’s capital, the opening was attended by the President of the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) and the country’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Keamou Bogola Haba, who both expressed strong support for youth development through boxing.

The atmosphere was electric, with traditional music and cultural performances welcoming athletes and guests from across the continent. The ceremony marked the beginning of a week-long tournament focused on discovering and nurturing Africa’s next generation of boxing talent.

This year’s championship features 46 young boxers—37 male and 9 female—from 9 African countries, all competing for continental glory and the opportunity to rise in international rankings. The event highlights not only athletic competition but also the values of discipline, respect, and unity among African youth.

In his opening remarks, the AFBC President praised Guinea for its hospitality and the excellent organization of the event. “This championship is a foundation for the future of African boxing. These young athletes represent our hopes, and we are proud to support their journey,” he said.

With the ceremonial bell rung, the championship now moves into full competition, promising intense action and inspiring performances in the days ahead.
